Hampshire Estate
Studio DAR (Architecture, Interior Architecture) collaborated with Thorp Design (Interior Design and Decoration) on the major extension and refurbishment of this stunning listed property on a Hampshire hillside. Planning permission and listed building consent were obtained to add a kitchen extension to the Georgian main house and to add a substantial dining room space to the adjacent Victorian ‘cottage’. The Georgian and Victorian buildings were then combined into a single-family house via a contemporary glass link space. The combination of these two buildings into a logical family dwelling involved a careful reconfiguration of the existing interiors, with a new stair as the centerpiece. To support the enlarged main house, the existing garage was converted to staff accommodation, and new garages and other outbuildings, including a Pool House, were constructed elsewhere on the grounds.
